"The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team."

Trisha Punit, Partner, CPA, CA

Kicking off her professional career with Deloitte and KPMG, Trisha worked as a tax specialist in the US and Cross-border Tax Services department, providing corporate and individual income tax preparation and planning to expatriates, including high net worth individuals, executives and companies that employ global executives with U.S. connections.

During her tenure with Top Four Accounting firms Trisha has gained experience in multiple disciplinaries within the firms, including tax, audit and forensic accounting, with a focus on taxation services. While this was an enjoyable and essential part of her career, Trisha left the ‘Top Four’ accounting world upon deciding that it was time to move on to the next stage of her professional and personal journey – a stage that involved paving her own road and taking on new challenges each day with her trusted team here at Punit & Associates and our clients.

While at KPMG Trisha was one of four employees selected from a pool of candidates across the country to participate in KPMG’s Global Tax Trek program. Through this program Trisha had the privilege of representing KPMG Canada and Regions East during an international assignment to KPMG Moscow, where she was a member of the Global Compliance Management Services & Outsourcing tax and legal department. Multi-national corporations are regular clients of this department and Trisha was able to gain valuable global industry knowledge and a thorough understanding of complex tax and accounting concepts on an international platform.

On a personal level, Trisha was grateful for the rare opportunity this assignment provided, allowing her to completely immerse myself in a new environment and mind-set. The interactions that Trisha had during this assignment contributed to a cultural intelligence that allowed her to further appreciate the cultural differences prevailing across nations, and the importance of embracing those differences open-mindedly, despite the language barriers that can exist. Living in Moscow was a one-of-a-kind, enriching experience she will never forget, both on a personal and professional level.

Outside of work, Trisha loves to spend time with her highly entertaining friends (her feline friend, Zeus, included), travel whenever the opportunity presents itself and indulge in movie-going more than she’d care to admit. She is also an avid reader and a strong believer in the passion that unites us all (that is, Leafs Nation).

Nav Gill, Senior Manager

A high honours graduate of Carleton University’s Bachelor of Commerce program with a specialization in accounting, Nav’s public accounting career began when he joined KPMG LLP in January 2009. As a member of KPMG’s audit department Nav had the opportunity to work with a wide array of clients from different industries, which included municipalities, hospitals, school boards and not-for-profit organizations. Nav was able to obtain a thorough understanding of, and apply the various auditing frameworks, accounting standards (including ASPE, IFRS, PSAB and Not-for-Profit Standards) and internal controls applicable to each of his clients, as well as develop his technical knowledge in handling complex transactions within a variety of different industries and sectors.

Always looking to expand his knowledge and abilities, Nav later transferred into the advisory practice within KPMG, focusing on risk consulting and assisting clients in understanding their corporate risks. Emphasizing the importance of internal controls and creating corporate strategies were routine tasks performed within this function in order to assist clients in mitigating their risks.

Having pursued his schooling after the birth of his daughter and being forced to balance the many educational, professional and personal aspects of his life at once, Nav was able to tap into a relentless focus and drive, instilling the strong work ethic and ambition that has been responsible for the many successful endeavors in his life. Nav credits this phase of his life for shaping him into the accomplished individual he is today.

After calling it a day at the office, Nav loves spending time with his two beautiful children and German Shepherd. In his spare time Nav volunteers free tax return preparation to senior citizens and tutors students, the latter of which Nav began as a school-appointed tutor throughout university. Nav is an avid mixed martial arts fan and always enjoy tuning in for a game of hockey or soccer.
